The Tour's only individual time trial, looping around Lake Geneva between Evian and Thonon. The profile is roughly a third climbing, a third descending and a third flat -- a tricky mix that rewards only the most complete riders.

Stage 16 (Evian-les-Bains → Thonon-les-Bains, 26.1 km) is an individual time trial. Every rider races alone against the clock, so pure time-trial specialists and all-rounders with a powerful engine will shine, while climbers and sprinters are likely to lose time.
