Stage preview

La Vuelta opens where no Spanish Grand Tour has started before: the streets of Monaco. At just 9.4 km, this individual time trial is short but technical, winding past the Casino and through the tight corners of the principality. Expect small gaps — but in a race this hard, even ten seconds gained on day one can matter three weeks later.

Stage favourites

Stage 1 (Monaco → Monaco, 9.4 km) is an individual time trial. Every rider races alone against the clock, so pure time-trial specialists and all-rounders with a powerful engine will shine, while climbers and sprinters are likely to lose time.

Riders start at two-minute intervals. Check the intermediate time splits at the halfway point to follow the gaps live.
