The elite women open the championships, riding exactly the same 39.2 km course as the men later the same day. It is long and almost flat — around 220 m of elevation — running past Old Montreal, along the new cycle paths beside the Saint Lawrence, around the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve and through Parc Jean-Drapeau before crossing the Concorde Bridge back to Avenue du Parc. Fast, technical in places, and a pure test of sustained power rather than climbing.
