One of the most talked-about days of the route: this medium-mountain stage introduces sterrato, unpaved gravel sectors rarely seen in La Vuelta's history. Gravel adds mechanical chaos and punishes bad positioning, so expect the general classification teams to fight for the front long before the sectors arrive.

Stage 6 (Alcossebre → Castellón, 177.4 km) is a hilly stage with 3,045 m of cumulative climbing. Puncheurs who can follow explosive accelerations on short, steep climbs will have the edge over flat-out sprinters.
