The route crosses Cathar country into the Ariege hills, setting up a likely tug-of-war between breakaway riders and the toughest sprinters. The Col de Montsegur, 34 km from the line, should already separate the contenders before the finish at the foot of Foix castle.

Stage favourites

Stage 4 (Carcassonne → Foix, 181.9 km) is a hilly stage with 3,259 m of cumulative climbing. Puncheurs who can follow explosive accelerations on short, steep climbs will have the edge over flat-out sprinters.

⚡ Watch for lone attacks on the final climb, or a reduced sprint between a small group of survivors off the last ascent.
